In this one-day workshop we will learn all about the media beloved by generations artists and illustrators for its matte finish and velvety application. Gouache is an ideal medium for capturing natural subjects because it allows all the spontaneity of other water media while also providing the artist with the ability to paint over or “correct” mistakes.

 Students will learn how to select a landscape for painting, how to develop a foreground, middle ground and background in landscape and how to use color theory to create a striking scene. In the first half of class we will paint from a photo provided by the instructor and in the second, students will be invited to paint a photo of a landscape of their choice with guidance from the instructor.
