Changing the Narrative: A special exhibition of encaustic and cold wax in collaboration with International Encaustic Artists
Art provides a way to tell stories visually. Through mythology, fairy tales, cultural commentary, dream imagery, family history, and personal narrative, art has sought to examine the challenges and mysteries of how we live; to interpret and understand our world, and share those thoughts with others. Art can expand a viewer’s perception or even create a change in their perspective. This exhibition will showcase the evolving ways in which artists are incorporating narrative ideas into their work, from abstract to representational.
We are fortunate to have DeWitt Cheng as our juror. DeWitt Cheng is a San Francisco-based critic, curator, teacher, and blogger. He has written hundreds of reviews on the visual arts in the Bay Area during the past 12 years to such print and online publications as SanFranciscoArtMagazine.com, Artweek, DailyGusto.com, ArtBusiness.com, Art Ltd., Artillery, Sculpture, ArtCritical.com, ArtPractical.com, East Bay Express, Art21.com, East Bay Monthly, and ArtOpticon.us. In addition, he has written and writes for galleries and artists.

101st Anniversary Exhibition
Friday, November 11th (5:30 - 8pm)
In celebration of Pacific Art League’s 101st anniversary, we invite artists to explore the playful juxtaposition of large-scale pieces versus their diminutive contemporaries. Scale is fundamental to the creation and reception of works of art. Size or dimension is one of the many ways an artist can express meaning and it is crucial to the relationship between the viewer and the work of art.
The Pacific Art League’s Anniversary Exhibit is an important annual fundraising event. All artists who submit artwork into this exhibit will automatically be entered into PAL’s 101st Anniversary Raffle and have the chance to win over $1000 in cash prizes, workshops, memberships and other prizes. With each $50 art submission or donation - 1 entry will be entered into the raffle. The more art you submit, the more chances you have to win! Drawing and raffle winners will be announced at the opening on Friday, November 11th.
All entry fees and donations are tax-deductible. Proceeds raised directly support PAL’s annual operations which allow us to continue to provide affordable educational programs, high quality exhibits, scholarships and free community outreach programs.
