The Golden Coast by Jim Caldwell
Born in New York in 1942, Jim Caldwell has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major and spent the next year in Paris studying painting and etching at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. In 1969 he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. He started painting actively again more than 35 years ago and has since accumulated an impressive body of work. Jim has had over 50 one-man shows and his paintings are represented in more than 480 collections worldwide.
Jim works in his studio under the redwoods in Woodside. He starts every morning with an hour at his easel. In addition, he has taught painting and drawing for over 20 years, first at Stanford, then Filoli, and now the Pacific Art League. He has recently published his second volume of paintings, The Golden Coast, Landscapes at the Edge of the Continent
Although best known for his California Landscapes, Jim has traveled widely and his work includes scenes as diverse as San Giorgio in Venice, and the African cats.
Jim had his first one-man show at the Pacific Art League in 1985
